The Lacoste Polo Shirt

The original. Designed by Rene Lacoste in 1933 for himself to wear whilst playing tennis and golf, it quickly gained popularity amongst others on the court and the green, taking over from the long sleeved overshirt, which was favoured at the time.

The infamous crocodile logo was sewn onto the chest of the shirts to protect against imitations and was a symbol of Rene's nickname as a tennis player "le crocodile".

The polo shirt retains a strong element of formality whilst at the same time providing a more relaxed look and feel for the wearer. It's a wardrobe essential.
